On this particular Sunday morning I was feeling quite restless; wanting to get out of the city, but also wanting to avoid all the smoke from the forest fires in BC. Instead of our regular trek west, we headed east towards Brooks. The drive is long and boring but eventually, we ended up at Dinosaur Provincial Park. We took time to enjoy our picnic lunch before heading off on the trail. If you drive through the campground near the visitor center you should soon find yourself in a small loop. Along with this circuit, there are various interpretive walks that can be done. We found ourselves stopping at most of them to look at the interesting rock formations and hoodoos. It always amazes me how diverse our province is when it comes to natural things. From mountains to prairies to badlands… all we need now is the ocean.
One of my highlights was walking among 200-year-old cottonwood trees and climbing up on the hoodoos (where it was permitted of course). Since it was a hot day and we had Bohdi along we ended our visit with a quick wade in the river. Not the cleanest water by any means, but it was certainly refreshing and a nice cool down before sitting in the car. I loved exploring this new place, but probably wouldn't return for a while - simply because of the amount of driving. That being said, if you are in the area, its worth it to check it out.
